HI Cate! Was it difficult for you to find a place to live in the city? I'm struggling :(
To be honest I am probably not the best person to ask about this… I am staying with my great aunt who lives in NYC. However I recommend looking into student housing for local universities, and looking online for students who are subletting for the summer. Students will usually put them up on craigslist (i know it sounds a bit sketchy but i know a couple people who have done this and its worked out) and on university run websites designed for students to put up info about their sublet. Also find out if you’re parents have contacts in the area, sometimes that can be helpful in finding a place to stay. My dad has a lot of friends in Brooklyn who sometimes sublet their places when they go out of town for extended periods of time. Unfortunately NYC is super expensive and I don’t think there is much of a way to avoid that… Hope this is at least slightly helpful!
How was the search to find your internship? Do you have any advice?
Finding an internship can be emotionally taxing and time consuming. I looked into several internships in fields I was most interested in. i.e.: publishing, blogging, fashion, etc. I tried to find information about opportunities to get involved. Look for contact information and do not hesitate to send an email or make a phone call. The earlier you get your name in the better. Also, what ever you do DON’T be shy. These people you want to intern for are likely extremely busy and often will forget to get back in touch. Don’t haggle them so much you are contacting them multiple times a week, but don’t be afraid to check in after a week or so of them not replying. If you want something, work for it. Have a resume ready. Ultimately it’s about staying on employers and showing them you are qualified, are a hard worker, and want the job. Let me know if you have more questions!
I have no idea if this is sending it through a private message, i'm still getting use to this! Hi Cate! I love your tumblr and your blogspot. I love the east coast style. Mine is very New England with some Southern influences thrown in there :) I have a two style questions for you: 1) What's your fav thing about VV? I bought a pastel hat and it's my fav accessory. 2) I'm thinking of getting navajo sandals from Jack Rogers and I was wondering if you had any advice? Hope you're doing well! :)
Thank you!! I love getting feedback and questions from readers :-)
1.) My favorite thing about @vineyardvines would probably be their use of color. I can consistently count on them to use fresh, bold colors with their products. My favorite product would probably be their tote bag. They come in so many different patterns and are extremely durable. Though I find their sizing to be slightly inconsistent from year to year on various products, it does not steer me away from purchasing their items. I have several of their products and love them all. My biggest thing is the quality of the material because I’d like them to last and VV definitely comes through in that aspect.
2.) DEFINITELY invest in @JackRogersUSA I’ve had one of my pairs of Jacks (which are green and pink) since I was 13 and I am now 21. They are a tad beat up lol but they are still in one piece and the colors are still bold. Part of me wants to tell you to get a really fun pair (like my green and pink) and the other part of me wants to recommend a more neutral pattern. I’d say if you were going to only get one pair, get a neutral design, that way you’ll get the most usage out of them. If you decide to go for two I’d recommend getting one pair in a really fun color because that’s half the fun in having a pair of Jacks.
